In 1502 when Christopher Columbus landed in Puerto Limón, fewer than 20 indigenous
tribes occupied the lands which were later called "Costa Rica" or "Rich Coast"
a reference to the golden bands that the region's Caribbean Indians wore as earrings
and nose rings.
The present population, primarily descendants of the Spaniards, is well over 4 million,
and has enjoyed more than 60 years of uninterrupted democracy. As a "democratic republic,"
Costa Rica is one of the safest (if not "THE SAFEST") countries in Latin
America for tourism and investment.
Costa Rica has a progressive approach to conservation, which ensures that its jungles,
with their renowned biodiversity, continue to be home to an exceptional assortment
of species of flora and fauna, from birds and butterflies, to trees and flowers.
In fact, 6% of the known species of plants and animals in the world are found in
Costa Rica, due in part to its many micro-climates.
Costa Rica is located in the Central American isthmus,
between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and is well-known for its beautiful
landscapes and tropical and subtropical climate. Among the many fascinating tourist
attractions, its rain forests and towering volcanoes (such as Mount Arenal in
northwestern Costa Rica) rank high on the list. Ecologica Developers' upcoming
projects can be found on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast, in the beautiful Manuel
Antonio area of the country.
Costa Rica's incredible geography and natural variety have made eco-tourism
popular in recent years. The country is recognized as the perfect destination for
windsurfing, board surfing, snorkeling, reef diving, hiking, cycling,
deep sea fishing, horseback riding,
challenging golf courses and a range of other outdoor activities. As a result, Costa Rica has become home to many Americans, Canadians and Europeans; many others consider it as a promising location for their second home or as an investment property for other reasons including:
- Stable democratic government
- Growing and diversified economy
- Commercial freedom
- Exciting opportunities for the enterprising entrepreneur
- Delightful, near perfect tropical climate
- Home to one of only four "blue zones" on the planet a place where inhabitants live longer, healthier lives
- Low violent-crime rate
- Universal healthcare for its citizens and the world's highest life expectancy at birth (surpassing the US and the UK)
- Guaranteed public education, and a 96% literacy rate
- Vistor-friendly; English is a second language for many Costa Ricans
- Cable TV with most of the US channels
- A low cost of living compared to the US, Canada, UK or Europe
